Weight Management Solutions
Maintaining a healthy weight is essential for overall health, but we understand that achieving weight management goals can be complex. While diet and exercise are critical components, factors such as hormonal imbalances and medical conditions can also impact weight. At Porter’s Pharmacy & Compounding Lab, we specialize in creating customized weight loss medications tailored to your unique needs, helping you achieve a healthier lifestyle.
Understanding the Risks of Obesity
Obesity is associated with serious health risks, including an increased likelihood of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hypertension, and other medical conditions. Several factors contribute to obesity, including:
- Increased consumption of high-sugar, high-fat foods
- Sedentary lifestyles and reduced physical activity
- Genetic predispositions and external influences
To effectively manage weight, a combination of strategies is often necessary, including:
- Dietary Adjustments: Focus on reducing processed and high-fat foods while increasing the intake of nutrient-dense, high-fiber options.
- Physical Activity: Regular exercise is essential for long-term weight management.
- Surgical Interventions: For severe obesity, bariatric surgery can alter the digestive system to aid in weight loss.
- Weight Management Programs: Tailored plans created by specialists that combine diet, physical activity, and habit adjustments.
- Weight Loss Medications: Prescribed alongside lifestyle changes, compounded weight loss medications offer personalized treatment options to enhance weight loss efforts.
Weight Loss Medications: GLP-1 and GIP Receptor Agonists
GLP-1 and GIP receptor agonists are commonly used to help manage blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. These medications increase insulin production after meals, reduce sugar release from the liver, and slow stomach emptying, which promotes a sense of fullness and may help support weight loss over time. Weight management medications may work best when combined with a healthy diet and regular physical activity.
At Porter’s Compounding Pharmacy, we currently offer both injectable and sublingual forms of semaglutide, customized to suit your specific needs. The injectable form is obtained from a qualified 503B compounding pharmacy and the sublingual form is compounded right here in our own pharmacy compounding lab.
Federal Guidance has been released in which smaller 503A Compounding Pharmacies (Porter’s Pharmacy) are allowed to purchase Compounded Injectable Semaglutide from 503B Compounding Pharmacies and then dispense it directly to patients pursuant to a prescription when commercial Semaglutide is on the FDA’s drug shortage list.
The Difference Between 503A and 503B Compounding Pharmacies:
- The FDA has designated 503A compounding pharmacies as those that compound prescriptions that are prepared patient-specific and are required by state boards of pharmacy to comply with USP and other guidelines.
- The FDA has designated 503B compounding pharmacies as those with outsourcing facilities that may manufacture large batches of compounds with or without prescriptions to be sold to healthcare facilities for office use.
Overcoming Weight Management Challenges
Many individuals encounter obstacles on their weight management journey, such as physical discomfort, fatigue, medical conditions, and hormonal imbalances. Environmental factors, like limited time or access to healthy foods, also play a role. At Porter’s, we recognize these challenges and are here to help by providing customized weight management medications designed to address your individual needs.
