Quality Assurance

Why Choose Porter's Compounding Pharmacy?

At Porter’s Compounding Pharmacy, we are committed to delivering the highest quality compounded medications to meet the unique needs of patients and prescribers. As a PCAB Accredited compounding pharmacy, we demonstrate our dedication to meeting/exceeding national quality standards while ensuring safety in everything we do.

PCAB Accreditation: A Mark of Quality

The Pharmacy Compounding Accreditation Board (PCAB) is a highly regarded third-party organization that awards accreditation to pharmacies that will consistently meet or exceed rigorous national quality standards. Less than 1% of all U.S. pharmacies exhibit PCAB accreditation. At Porter’s, we have proudly been PCAB accredited since February 2017.

Why does PCAB accreditation matter? It ensures that we follow the highest standards in compounding, including:

  • Use of high-quality ingredients from reliable suppliers.
  • Specialized training for pharmacists and technicians.
  • A clean and contaminant-free facility that meets stringent design standards.
  • Compliance with United States Pharmacopeia (USP) standards, including USP <795>  for non-sterile compounding and USP <797> for sterile compounding.
  • Adherence to the PCAB “Principles of Compounding,” ensuring a focus on safety and efficacy.

Porter's is USP 800 Compliant

USP <800> sets guidelines for the safe handling of hazardous drugs, protecting pharmacy staff and patients alike. Since 2020, Porter’s has operated a certified Hazardous Drug (HD) Negative Pressure Lab to ensure the safe compounding of medications containing any chemical appearing on the “Hazardous Chemical List.” This is accomplished by having the air within the lab move constantly in one direction which ultimately gets pulled out of the lab and vented completely out of the building. Some examples of these chemicals are:

  • hormones (e.g., estrogens, progesterone, testosterone)
  • methimazole
  • tretinoin
  • and fluorouracil.

Our pharmacy has been ahead of the curve in meeting these safety standards. This means that when you choose Porter’s, you can trust that your compounded medications are prepared in a safe environment by highly trained professionals.

Special Distinction in Hazardous Drug Handling

In addition to our PCAB accreditation, Porter’s has also earned a “Special Distinction in Hazardous Drug Handling.” for our HD Lab. This certification reflects our commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in handling hazardous drugs, ensuring the health of our staff and the quality of the medications we prepare.

Commitment to Compounding Excellence

Our commitment to excellence is the driving force behind everything we do at Porter’s. Achieving and maintaining PCAB accreditation requires continuous improvement, something we strive for every day. It’s this dedication to quality and safety that sets us apart and can give prescribers and patients a high level of confidence in the medications we prepare.

Customized Compounding to Meet Unique Needs

Compounding is the art and science of preparing customized medications to meet the specific needs of patients. Whether it’s adjusting ingredients, dosage, route of administration, or even flavoring, our compounding pharmacists work with licensed prescribers to create solutions when commercial products aren’t suitable.

At Porter’s Pharmacy, we work closely with prescribers to ensure that each patient receives personalized care through custom-compounded medications.
